Stitching Bloggers' Question of the Week - Catch Up

What was your favorite finish of 2007?

Posted for January 8:
That would have to be The Trilogy's "Winter Lineup," which I had framed in a beautiful distressed green frame and gave to my daughter for Christmas. You can see it at my Multiply.

This was posted January 16:
What is your favorite past time while stitching? Do you just enjoysilence, listen to music/audiobooks or do you "watch" TV/movies? Do you have specific favorites you listen to/watch while stitching?

I've never been able to do anything but "watch" TV while stitching. Audio books are very distracting and irritating to me. Wish I could tolerate them though.

The Love Shines Through

your beautiful, feeling, and sincere comments about my situation with Moriah. I appreciate each and every one of you taking the time to say what you feel, and I cried while reading what you all had to say. I'm praying that God will show us all the way to the best situation. The good thing is that even if her parents decide they want her back home and she wants to go, I can see all of them every day if I want to, as they live in the same town. We're keeping communication open with our daughter and letting her know how things are going, and what she's doing. I don't want this to create a wedge. Time will tell, but right now, she has been ordered out and says she'll never be able to go back. The nice thing about grandparenting is that it gives a person a 2nd chance at parenting, to correct one's previous mistakes. My best friend is the product of a mother who threw her out and whose grandparents raised her. She found her mother on the Internet and called on Mother's Day to tell her about her 5 grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Her mother told her that she wasn't interested and not to bother her ever again. That's beyond my comprehension, as it would be for all of you. This friend of mine is 70 years old, looks 50, and is a lovely person, inside and out. She is one of the most loving mothers I know. She could have been just the opposite, but she chose a different path and accepts that her mother was incapable of love. However, it broke her heart. As a product of the most loving mother and father I can imagine, I can't understand anything less. They still, at my ripe age of 60, try to take care of me. I think loving and taking care of their kids has been the most important thing in their lives, and it has contributed to their longevity. I don't know what I'll do without them.

Here are a few pix of stuff I had on my camera:

These are a few of my eBay bargains. I bought the two Mill Hill kits (love to do these!) from a gal who sells for at least 25% off on eBay. The two Brittercup designs and the sewn things at bottom (candy cane print wallhanging holder and bright green tuck pillow) are all from Barb, whom I met at a stitching retreat last October. She scouts out overstock and old charts at various LNS' and sews the most wonderful things for stitching that I'm her present best customer, LOL! She'll do things at your request, sew something on her site in your choice of color, etc. The best thing that she has going is the hoop and Q-Snap cover that keeps your fabric clean as you work. Her name is Barb, and I highly recommend her services.

These are a few of the latest Prairie Schooler designs, of which I've always been a big fan because of the classic simplicity that never goes out of style. For once, I think I paid full price for these, though I normally only buy at bargain prices. I'm cheap, but not when you add it all up, LOL!

I recently ordered a couple of times for conversions of Vikki Clayton's silks for some of my newer charts, which I'll get pix of later. In the process, the cheap side of me took advantage of her irresistible bargains. Her lovely miscellaneous items are dirt cheap, and her sometimes funky colors of silk she's discontinuing are marked down, so I grab them up. I got enough of the upper left portioned and labeled silks to do two La-D-Da Christmas ornies, which I'd never use for Christmas, but for something like a pinkeep or other misc. sewing item, and with a small purchase, this silk was a quarter for one ornament. The funky silk is upper right; bottom shell thread holder hearts are a quarter each. The various colored shell thread winders are 75¢ a piece, and the mini-pink thread winder was a quarter. I'm in love with gadgets.

Here are two more of the newer Prairie Schooler charts I adore, my newest Crochet World magazine, at the top of which is one of the things I ordered from the Online Needlework Show. It's in the box, and it's a kitty scissor fob on right in box and a wonderful new gadget called a thread picker, both of which I ordered in a bright blue by My Big Toe Designs. I love this companies designs and products! Last, on the right side of the mag is a little unusual beading kit (I'm a real beading fan) that I won in Shirley's customer drawing a couple of months ago. I'll be glad when she gets back from her trip. She sells 25% off her listed prices and features 3 designers each month at 40% off. Above all that, leaned against my sewing machine are two sizes of Barb's Q-Snap covers. I have nearly all the sizes she makes and use them every day. They're just wonderful, and they're very reasonably priced. If you order from her, she occasionally throws in simply wonderful freebies that are something new she has made and are experiments. Her sewing is beautiful!

Just When I Think I'm On A Roll......

the bottom drops out. I had thought I would get back to being active in my Yahoo Groups and blogging regularly, but my granddaughter was ordered out of her home again, so I have my little darling and have had since New Year's Day. I do wish her parents wouldn't mess up the "damage control" I have to do when I get her. She came to me with this hateful chip on her shoulder. She came to me sullen and unhappy; now she's happy as a clam, and I'm enjoying every minute with her. It took me a while to get her to this point, and it's never easy and takes a chunk of my time, talking candidly and loving her back to her potential. Now that we've reached this point, I feel I have more time. I'm not sure she's going back this time. At least I don't want her to, but I know that this is not the way things should be, and I know she'll get to missing her home, her kitties, brothers and possibly her parents when they're not yelling and screaming. Holy cow! What a mess!

Thought I'd share the things I just finished for my great nephew. I crocheted a dream puff afghan that I've saved for the right baby. The bib is designed by me, and I took a few of the motifs from a Sue Cook book, "Wonderful Cross Stitch Collection." I put them all together and designeds the sand dune, sand castle, pond, etc., on the left side. Since the bib was woven with ducks in it, I stitched "Jacob's Just Ducky" and stitched the nautical scene. There is also a burp towel with a duck, and I put his initials on the blocks beside the duck. The funny thing was, the only thing I had to buy was the rubber ducky. I already had the afghan done; the bib and towel were in my stash.

Speaking of stash, I'm still loaded with new stuff I've got to get posted, but that gives me things to do another day. Forgive me for not getting around to visit your blogs. I'll get there eventually... promise. I've missed seeing what everyone is up to these days. Thanks to all who have been so kind as to visit my "iffy" blog when there was nothing to see, lol!

Stitchy Stash (older pix)

These first two pix are a bit redundant, and I really wanted everyone to see the pink bunny scissors I sent to a stitching friend and bunny collector, also, the Country Cottage Needleworks' new design, "Garden Girl." I pictured them not once, but twice here. The first picture shows a whimsical design, "Curly-Q Ewe," by Little House Needleworks, with all the fibers for that to the left of the pattern.
In this pic is a couple of the LHN scriptural thread packs, "Faith and Peace." CCN's "Home Sweet Home," and the 2nd time around for the scissors and "Garden Girl."
My usual December magazines.
Carriage House Hill's "Meeting House" with Vikki Clayton silks to stitch it; up and right is The Sampler Girl's "Irish Blessing Needlebook;" the remaining 3 are Little House Needlework's coffee series thread packs with Crescent Colour's silks.

Stitching Bloggers' Question of the Week - Catch Up

I totally gave up trying to keep up with my Internet habits during the holidays. I turned off my Yahoo Groups to "No Mail" so I could enjoy the holidays without the added stress. Sometimes the way I do everything just makes me stress out. I put my heart and soul into everything I do, and I guess, in a way, one could say I'm a perfectionist; therefore, I get less done. It's all self-imposed, thus, makes me angry with myself. Sometimes it's best not to do it, rather than be stressed about it, so I took a vacation from the Internet. It's terrible to have something that used to be so pleasant turn into a job; however, it's a new year, and I'm going to be easier on myself. That's my only resolution. There is absolutely no sense in making the normal resolutions, as knowing myself so well, I'll never keep them. This year I'm just going to be easier on myself. This post is nothing but 3 weeks of SBQs, but I've been taking pictures, and the posts to come are going to be fun for me.

This week's (December 19) SBQ was suggested by Kathryn http://threadsofdesire.blogspot.com/) and is:
Have you ever helped anyone else learn to stitch? Have you ever helped anyone learn a new stitch or technique?

Yes, I taught my sister, my daughter, and my granddaughter to stitch, but none of them have kept their interest, I'm sorry to say. Now, on the other hand, I've had the pleasure of helping my best friend learn new stitches and techniques, and she has flourished and loves stitching as much as anyone I know.

This week's (December 26) SBQ is:Did you receive any stitching-related gifts for the holidays?

My happy answer is yes! I got a gift certificate to my LNS, a new Daylight stitching floor lamp (my Dazor bit the dust after many years of faithful service), and my sewing machine did the same. Holy cow, I checked out having it repaired, and everywhere I checked, they wanted a fortune just to take it in, not to mention parts and labor, so I got a new Singer on eBay, which I haven't yet had time to play with. I have tons of new stash to be posted in days to come.

This week's (January 3) SBQ is: Are you starting something new to celebrate the New Year or participating in "Guilt Free January?" If so, what are you planning on starting?

No, nothing new, but I studied for hours (that's me---slow, but perfect) on what my best plan of attack would be in getting projects done more productively. As I was organizing my craft room, I wrote down things I really wanted to start, so after planning a rotation of WIPs of only 6, I have my list, in order of importance to me to start, that I can add to my rotation as I complete one. So far, it's working very well. We'll see how I'm doing in a month. This plan is another thing I did that is as close to a resolution as I made.
